"Obama and the Gays, again" Is the title of the most recent article on America Blog. It seems Obama is getting both some positive and negative publicity about him and Gays. First, the Liberals are very happy with him for his comment: "scorned our gay brothers and sisters instead of embracing them" which he made at a Baptist Church in Atlanta.
But then the liberals started to get upset with Obama because of a link he had with Rev. Caldwell. They were very upset with Obama because Caldwell had a program at his church that "cured" gays. The exact quote from their website was:
We are pleased to announce the creation of “ The Way, The Truth and The Life”, a program created to provide Christ Centered instruction for those seeking freedom from homosexuality, lesbianism, prostitution, sex addiction and other habitual sins.
In my opinion practicing homosexuality, prostitution, or sex addiction are all habitual sins and I am very pleased to see that a church has a program like this!

Well it looks like Hillary won the caucus in Nevada. America blog reports her as having over 50% of the vote. However, Obama wasn't far behind with 45% of the vote. Edwards fell very far behind with only 4% of the vote. It is clear that the democratic candidate is going to be Obama or Hillary, but the race seems so close. I am very interested to see who will pull ahead in the end. Personally I hope that Obama wins, I don't want there to be any chance of Hillary becoming the President. I might just leave the country if that happened.
On another note, Hillary spoke about her views on gay health benefits and other benefits. The Democrats Are Fighting Eachother!
Once again I will be commenting on an article from America blog. This article is titled "Edwards Blasts Obama over Anti-Clinton Ad" First off I have to say I'm surprised Edwards is even getting any attention. I thought that by this point the race was really just between Clinton and Obama. Maybe I am just misinformed, but Shouldn't Edwards just go ahead and give up? Anyways, I really enjoy this article. Basically, the author of the article (a liberal) does not agree with Edwards (a democrat) who is bashing Obama (a democrat) for bashing Hillary (a democrat). Wow... and they say that the republican party is divided...

Franken-food
There continues to be a lack of interesting articles on the two blogs that I am following. All Things Conservative has stopped posting altogether for the last week for some unknown reason. And the posts on America blog are rather uninteresting. Nevertheless, I will comment on one article on America blog
FDA says no need to inform consumers of Franken-food. In this article the liberals are very upset that the FDA is not going to require food from cloned animals to be labeled. He says this is because Bush has ruined the FDA and sided with industry. However this excerpt explains why it must be this way: I don't see why labeling the food would make any difference. And I do not see the connection between this issue and President Bush siding with industry. I wish America blog would focus more on facts and stop trying to use everything to attack the President. If they are going to attack the President they should at least try to put together a sensible argument and not just try to blame random things on him.
But it will be hard to tell which foods do contain ingredients originating from cloned animals. The Food and Drug Administration ruled that labels won't have to reveal whether the food comes from cloned cows, pigs or goats, or the clones' offspring, because those ingredients are no different than meat or milk from livestock bred the old-fashioned way.
"We found nothing in the food that could potentially be hazardous. The food in every respect is indistinguishable from food from any other animal," FDA food safety chief Dr. Stephen Sundlof said. "It is beyond our imagination to even find a theory that would cause the food to be unsafe."

The Weakening GOP
In this blog I will be looking at a recent article from America Blog: The GOP's "deep rifts".
The author of this article looks at the turmoil throughout the Republican party. From his point of view it is a very good thing that the Republican party is weakening. The basis of his argument is that the Republican party became strong because of Regan, but now it is extremely divided. All of the current candidates relate back to Regan in one aspect, but they are all very different. There is no strong Republican candidate. It seems to me like all of the candidates are too extreme. The Republicans need a candidate that can pull support from the whole party and not just smaller factions.
Unfortunatly, I think that the next president will be a democrat. I just cannot see any of the republican candidates gaining enough support to beat Obama or Hillary come election time. So, maybe for the first time, I agree with what America blog has to say; however, I have very different feelings about the issue.

Bush Bashing!
Well, the Liberals from America Blog are back to their favorite past time: bashing the President. In a recent article titled "Bush too weak to walk the walk in the Middle East" the liberals attack the president. They seem to blame the President for Middle Eastern countries not being democratic. They go as far as to say "he's a hypocrite who has little interest in democracy" and that he "is all talk with no action." I find it hard to believe the the President of the United States of America has no interest in democracy. What do they want him to do? Do they want America to attack all the counties that aren't democracies? And I don't see how they can believe that he does not take action. He took action in Iraq, but they aren't happy about that.
It just bothers me to see posts that insult our president and go as far to insult and mock our country. Sure, America is not perfect, but it has to be doing something right. Why would thousands of people from other countries move here every year if it was such a bad place?
As far as All Things Conservative goes they have had no new blog entries for quite some time. This is unfortunate, it would be refreshing to read some articles from another perspective.

Plastic Bags, Cloned Food, and High Speed Trains!
Well, the topics to write about this weekend has been very limited. I have decided to comment on a few short articles from America Blog. First, China has banned plastic bags. I find it surprising that China would do something like this. Since when do they care about the environment. I guess it is a little embarrassing that they are ahead of the U.S. on this. However, I also think it is a little extreme to totally ban plastic bags. The U.S. could work on reducing how many we use though.
In other news from America Blog, the EU and the U.S. are allowing the marketing of cloning foods. However, the foods have to be very clearly marked. The article from America blog seems to think that the idea of cloned foods will flop and that people will not want to eat them. They sound fine to me though. I've never had cloned food, but if it tastes the same then who cares? We will just have to wait and see how cloned food turns out. Maybe in 20 years we will not be able to survive without it.
Finally, there is the issue of high speed trains or the lack there of in the U.S. The United States has never had a train system that could compare to Europe, and recently the gap has been widening. The article on America blog uses the lack of high speed trains in America as proof that America is not "the bestest country on the earth". I really don't see why high speed trains are all that important. America is so much more spread out of has developed so differently than Europe, that I do not think trains will ever become popular. American's are dependent on cars, or airplanes if we have to go a long way. I just don't see there being a demand for a high speed train system, so it would not be cost effective to put all of the money up to build one.
Well these topics have been rather dry. Just remember that when you go to the grocery store you should bring you own bags (that are not plastic), watch out for any cloned foods, and take the train on your way home.

Republicans Are Behind the Democrats...
I have had a hard time finding any articles these last few days worth commenting on. But today I will be commenting on an article titled "The Enthusiasm Gap, and Why it Matters" from America Blog. This article focuses on how the Democrats have had a much larger turnout than the Republicans at both of the caucuses so far. However, some of this is because those states typically have more democrats than republicans. I am interested to see what the turnout will be in a strong republican states. The Liberals tend to think that based on the first two caucuses the republicans are in trouble this election. Unfortunatly, I think they may be right. Personally I would prefer the republicans win the coming election, but I doubt it will happen. The liberals do, however, think that if Hillary win the nomination the "enthusiasm gap" might close. Maybe the best chance for Republicans this year is for Hillary to win the nomination.

Corruption in the Senate and Deaths in Iraq
All Things Conservative had an article today stating that Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu is currently under investigation for excepting bribes. She received $30,000 in campaign contributions from executives at Voyager Expanded Learning just four days before passing a bill that earmarked 2 million dollars for the company. It sounds very suspicious to me! I would be surprised if she was found innocent. Hopefully she will just resign. I find it very disappointing that people like this are leading our country.
In other news, America Blog jumped on the story that 6 Americans had been killed in Iraq. Apparently, a booby-trapped house north of Baghdad exploded, killing six soldiers. The U.S. death toll has now reached 3,900. This number may seem large, the liberals sure like to use it to point out how bad a job the president is doing. However, the death toll from September 11th was 2,974 people. That is in just one day, and it only took 19 terrorists to pull it all off! We need to keep things in perspective and remember that in order to protect America we have to seek out these terrorists and countries that support them. Its not going to be easy, and there are going to be American casualties, but that is the cost we have to pay to protect out country.
I find it ironic that directly after 9/11 all of the liberals blamed the attacks on President Bush, saying that the government could have stopped such an attack and that they weren't doing enough. But when the President does take action to prevent future attacks they still complain. Can't they just make up their minds?!

Economy Crashing in Florida? I don't think so.
One article from America Blog caught my eye today because it had Orlando, my hometown, in its title. The article was titled: Bankruptcies nearly doubled in Orlando area. America Blog then goes on to say that "the economy of Florida is clearly tanking" and that it is all the republicans fault. The author of this article is not even from Florida and I doubt he knows much or cares about the economic situation there. As he states is his article, the only reason he is writing is because he saw a newspaper headline in the Orlando airport that reported the bankruptcies increasing 96%.
This article really just makes me upset. Someone who really is rather ignorant about a topic uses it just to bash President Bush and the Republicans. He could care less about what is going on in Florida. His whole article is based off of one statistic, that bankruptcies increased 96% in Orlando. He uses this one fact to go on a rant about how George and Jeb Bush are destroying the economy. The article states that around 7,000 individuals declared bankruptcy over the last year. This number may seem large when taken out of context, but when you consider that the population of the greater Orlando area is around 1,700,000 the number becomes quite small.
Had the author of this article taken the time to look at the recent economic history Florida he would have seen that actually it has been doing quite well. Of course he would never want to admit that the Republicans could ever do anything right. It is true that the economy in Florida is currently down, but that is because for the last few years the housing market has been doing so well, and now it is just leveling off. Hillary in Tears and Being Supported by Republicans
Both America Blog and All Things Conservative have an article about Hillary's recent tearing up in a Portsmouth coffee shop. This episode left both sides questioning her motives. Was her emotional outbreak really genuine, or just part of her plan to win support? Surprisingly, a recent post on America blog seems to believe that she was faking the tears. Also, they comment on how even if this was legitimate it could still have a negative impact on her campaign because it supports the stereotype of a weak emotional woman. Personally, either way this makes me like Hillary even less. Either she was just faking emotions to gain support, which is pretty low. Or she is really too emotional and not tough enough to be president. You sure don't see the other candidates crying and talking about how hard their life is.
On a related note, All things Conservative had an article supporting Hillary Clinton?!? At first glance this sure seemed odd to me. The author of the article wants Hillary to win the democratic nomination because they really do not think there are any republican candidates who can beat Obama. Unfortunately for republicans, things are looking better for Obama and worse for Clinton each day. I agree that Obama would be much harder to beat in the presidential election than Hillary. However, I'm not even sure if the republicans can even put up a candidate that can beat Hillary, and I would much rather have Obama in office than Hillary. So I'm not so sure I want Hillary to win the democratic nomination, its not worth the risk of ending up with her as our president for four years.

Attacking Huckabee Already
The authors of America Blog didn't waste anytime in beginning their attacks on Huckabee. In an article from January 4th they claim that even the Republicans do not like Huckabee. But if that is so, then why did he win the Republican caucus in Iowa? America blog must see Huckabee as the main republican threat, after his victory in Iowa, so they are starting the mudslinging already! In one article they claim that Huckabee is a "flip-flopper" because he keeps changing his mind on issues. In another article they rip apart his new tax plan. I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with his new tax plan, to be honest I do not know enough about it to be sure. However, I find it interesting that the democrats waste no time in attacking the leading republican candidate.
On the conservative side, All Things Conservative has recent articles that focus on important world issues like Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan. number 1
After looking through many different blogs I have decided on two that I will follow throughout the next month.
The first is titled America blog and has a very liberal outlook on events. This blog has several different authors and is updated several times a day. Recent entries deal with the caucus in Iowa. The blog comments provide the results of the caucus, with Obama leading the democrats and Huckabee leading the Republicans. The most recent entry comments on the number of votes that the candidates received. The author's liberal viewpoint is very apparent in this post because he laughs at Huckabee for having only received half as many votes as Hillary.

In the most recent entry, the author comments on President Bush's plan tap the Chukchi Sea for Oil. He also mocks John Kerry's arguments against this plan.
